A screenplay, otherwise known as a script, is a written composition crafted by screenwriters that serves as the foundation for a film, television show, or video. Screenplays typically encompass not just the spoken dialogue of the characters, but also a detailed breakdown of the film's actions and sequences, shot by shot.
While overseeing the writing process of the screenplay, I generated numerous sample screenplays and supplementary notes to enhance the script. A multitude of revisions were implemented to produce the final official version, specifically for the opening sequences. Initially, it originated as a straightforward narrative inspired by a friend's dream, which I continued to expand into treatment and then further refined into script #1 and script #2. Although there exist several other scripts, these two in particular underwent significant alterations and contributed to the story's development. To refine script #2, our teams conducted audience research, asking for feedback from AS-level media teachers, and for comments from a student who recently completed A Levels, she is currently pursuing studies in the film industry.
There are some arguments for making this as our crewmates have different opinions about the script, eventually we solve it by taking ideas into consideration one by one and evaluating which one is more suitable and will make the sequence flow better
The most noticeable changes made from script #1 to script #2
- changing from phone calls to a piece of note
- change the first 20 seconds of the opening sequence from Duy just finished school hours into Duy cleaning his mom's room
- from vague flashbacks with long character lines to detailed storytelling of what happens in each part of the flashback
- from Duy still living with his mom to his mom has suicide in the past due to the shock of the affair and pressure to handle the family
- changes of line how Duy says to the lady in the final scene: "Are you are resident here?" => "Do I know you?"
Screenplay #2 by Nguyễn Hồng Bảo Ngọc
