Film opening sequence analysis

The film's opening title consists of a lady unwrapping a package containing a red dress, she unwrapped using a small metal knife might emphasise that the main thing or weapon used in the film is the metal knife. The lady's nail is painted red which can connote that she’s a powerful, strong woman. A zoom-in close-up shot of the dress inside the box, followed by the film's title with some credits written beneath. While this scene illustrates the main prop that is significant in this film is the red attire. As the scene covered the sale tag of the attire, we could assume that there’s something off about the dress which links back to the title: IN FABRIC, the dress is made out of fabric.

After starring the film title, with the production and companies. Pictures of several scenes from the movie are shown which signifies these are the important scenes or events along with the credit for the actress, producers, etc have taken place in making the film. The pictures starring help illustrate the overall mood and the details of the films.

As the introduction of the production team continues, there’s a scene of half of the screen is black and the other half is about the people shooting from above using angle shots, the scene exposes the characters appear in the film however there are many people which conveys that they’re side character being manipulated or controlled.

While there's scenery of a mysterious mannequin and the appearance of the red garment, underneath was the human-shaped face therefore creating excitement to discover what’s behind this red piece of clothing.  However they only show us a piece of the garment, therefore the audience only knows that this is a red garment rather than a dress. So that the title and the scene could fit the description, In Fabric.

A scene of the woman, she’s been portrays as femme fatale looks and the antagonist of the film. She has a strong determined facial expression with long red nails and a mole between the nose and mouth showing unique facial features which make the lady stand out. The scene of the lady looking down at something clarifies she standing in a high position and has power over something which this something may be the crowd.

What can be concluded is that this is a horror film setting in London around the 1980s, with the main key points related to fashion and fabric, clothing stores with the model's dolls become the scary factors and a controlling, devious woman who is the controversial character, has a different mindset that would ready to punish anyone if they stop her from getting the things she wants.

Idents

After starting the scene the ident and title popped up. Underneath the film title are the credits as mentioned, the title of the film and the credit were put into one scene as one name of the companies also consists of the word “fabric”. Following is the other production.

They started with a common picture of the main character, which gives a casual vibe of an ordinary vintage clothing shop. However, the background music starts with just instrumental, as the picture continues to show it begins to add loud discussion sound from a crowd. Overall mood of the pictures and background music gets more off. Creating mysterious feelings towards the content of the films, therefore successful in raising the audience's excitement as the movie continues starring.

The last scene stars a newspaper from an old clothing store they sell to old women in their 50s, from the sale sign in front of the store we can assume that the origin of the dress belongs to that old store. The content of the newspaper slowly zooms in on a happy, attractive woman and their 50s. Showing the theme of the woman looking for their significant other.

Inspiration

The background music helped increase the dramatic contrast in the film opening, therefore we can take this for inspiration in our scene as the elevator music and the overall scene slowly continue increasing the intensity and the music starts to get weirder. The scene will be a heart-racing moment for the audience.
