Audience
They're a group of people that receive the media text for example TV shows, films, and articles. In other terms, they are the ones who will be interested in the different genre films you make and will be looking forward to watching it. Different film genres have different audiences, which can be defined by:
- Demographic characteristics: age, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status
- Geographic location
- Media habits
- Interests
However, audiences are not always homogeneous, they can be changed over time and it's hard to predict who your audience may be.
Ways that media describe express particular groups, communities and experiences for example the overall setting, the background, and the stereotypes of characters that are built in the film which provides information for the viewers.
Industry
The sector of the economy: companies, and organisations responsible for the making of the film including production, distribution and consumption of media content. It includes newspapers and magazines; film and video; PR; digital media; broadcast media
Media language
Refers to the techniques, and conventions used by film directors to create meaning in text, it includes 4 types
- Narrative codes: It used to tell a story, and refer to the story plot, the character, the setting and the conflict in the media context, The use of this can create different moods, and vibes for the film
- Visual codes: This focuses on the look of a media text e.g.: colour, lightning, effect, and composition. For example, the use of shadows, and dark colours can create a sense of mystery, suspense while the use of bright colours could create a bright and joyful sense
