Choice of Genre: I feel like it was a pity that at first, my team didn’t research many film genres; we just stuck with one of the most popular genres, which is horror. Although it’s a good genre and one of the most popular genres being preferred, after all the process, we understand that it is very difficult to create a successful horror genre film. Many elements need to be chosen from and evaluated to see if they are suitable or if the film crew can nail this transition. Elements of horror, such as jump scare, are the ones we include in our film, which is (later). If there’s a chance to redo it again, horror won’t be on my top choice list but there are other suitable genres that are a more gentle, drama-like slice of life.
Choices of actors: in terms of actors, there’s also some struggle as we take a long time to find suitable actors for the film. For the main character Duy, we have asked multiple people to become Duy; however, the majority of people rejected it for the common reason they’re camera shy. Luckily, we have asked James, and James is happy to accept the offer to become the main character without anything in return. I’m very grateful for him helping us so I decided to buy him… I would say that the final actor and actress line was not what I my expected, but it was still doing fine from the beginning until the very end which I’m really grateful for their efforts.
Film crew arguments: Our crew also had many arguments happen at the place when filming the draft opening sequences; however, as time passed and days of working together. We began to understand each member's personality including the cast's personality. We learned how to listen to each other and not to raise our voices when protecting each person's ideas. Effective communication is what I got to learn and value the most besides the production process. It is not easy to work in teams since everyone has their own idea for the project, which is why proper communication is really important. I wish our three members had learned that sooner so we wouldn't waste our time arguing instead of focusing on research and filming.
